The Winelands VAN-Guard exhibition is made possible by the generous support of the Distell Foundation, BASA, The City of Cape Town, WC Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Durbanville Hills, Oude Libertas Gallery, Neethlingshof Estate and Uitkyk Estate.
A full colour catalogue has been published and will be available for sale at the exhibitions at the various wine farms.
FINE ART EXHIBITION AT HISTORIC UITKYK ESTATE
One of the most gracious and historic homesteads in Stellenbosch is the venue for an exhibition showcasing the work of talented young artists Maegan Elise and Neil le Roux.
Their work is on display in Uitkyk’s manor house from June 8 until July 18, weekdays from 09:00 until 17:00, and 10:00 until 16:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
The exhibition, to which Uitkyk is lending its support, forms part of the Winelands VAN-Guard initiative, curated by Gerhi Janse van Vuuren and intended to introduce the work of 14 young artists to Cape Winelands audiences.
Maegan Elise began painting at a very young age to express the isolation she experienced growing up in the sparsely populated interior of British Columbia. Now living in Cape Town, the Canadian artist creates emotional landscapes of solitude, beauty and simple harmony.
Neil le Roux graduated from Stellenbosch University with a BA (Fine Arts) degree in 2008. He had his first solo exhibition in September last year at Salon91 in Cape Town.
Visitors to the exhibition can sample Uitkyk’s fine wines and estate-matured potstill brandy, available for tasting in the wine tasting centre.
Uitkyk Estate is situated on the R44 between Stellenbosch and Paarl. For more information contact the estate on 021 884 4416.
EXCITING NEW ART ON SHOW AT NEETHLINGSHOF ESTATE
The recently revamped tasting room at Neethlingshof Estate in Stellenbosch is hosting its first exhibition, showcasing the photographic, installation and mosaic works of an exciting new generation of local artists. The group show, featuring Damien Schumann, Kevin Thomas and Isgak Stemmet runs from June 8 to July 18, weekdays from 09:00 until 19:00, and 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
The exhibition, to which Neethlingshof is lending its support, forms part of the Winelands VAN-Guard initiative, curated by Gerhi Janse van Vuuren and intended to introduce the work of 14 young artists to Cape Winelands audiences.
Damien Schumann is a photographer and installation artist whose work is inspired by contemporary social issues. His interest in photography was ignited by his travels in the Middle East and Asia.
