KWV’s Café Culture, the sociable Coffee Pinotage 2010, was awarded Best Red Wine on Show at this year’s ninth RMB WineX. The exhibition took place at the renowned Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 8 – 9 September. For these two nights only visitors had the opportunity to stock up on wines for their collections and rub shoulders with the country’s top winemakers.
This year’s WineX introduced new features such as theme-based ‘wine tours’ conducted by Cape Wine Masters and Great Deals offered through the WineX’ retail facility, Shop@Show, that was managed by PicardiRebel. Every year at the festival visitors can have their say by voting for their favourite red and white wines to provide an indicator of popular appreciation.
Brand Director for Café Culture, Jeff Gradwell, was delighted with the result. “The WineX Best Wines on Show is judged by very important stakeholders – our consumers. It reflects the appeal Café Culture has to everyday wine drinkers and the unmistakable quality of this wine with its distinct mocha, dark chocolate and toffee flavours complemented by berry aromas”, says Gradwell.
This controversial up-beat wine launched with the release of the 2007 vintage and has become an icon of socialites alike. Pinotage, the only uniquely South African grape variety, remains a favourite world wide. Café Culture is available in South Africa as well as in International markets. “We have seen great success within the Swedish market with exports increasing from 30 000 litres to 500 000 litres per year over a short period of three years. This is the fastest growth experienced within the Swedish market and is a key area for KWV to grow even further”, says Gradwell. “The high demand is purely being driven by consumers and support from the media in Sweden”.
Café Culture is excellent enjoyed on its own or as an accompaniment to meat and pasta dishes; as well as chocolate and berry desserts. With summer just around the corner it can also be served slightly chilled.
The 12th RMB WineX Sandton takes place at Sandton Convention Centre from 26 to 28 October. For more information visit www.winex.co.za.
Café Culture 750ml is available at a RSP of R54.95 in leading retail outlets and the I-Tube is available at a RSP of R159 and the 375ml four pack is available at a RSP of R119.00.
