KWV’s Cecil Skotnes travelling art exhibition, featuring 30 works by this highly acclaimed South African artist, has been partnered with the Laborie Limited Collection wines on its epic journey to eight destinations throughout South Africa over the last nine months (including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth), with its final stop being the Laborie Wine Farm in mid-December 2011.

The collection is built around the 1977 piece Skotnes created especially for KWV titled “The Origin of Wine”, which is based on one of the oldest stories of humankind, “The Epic of Gilgamesh”. This impressive wood carved triptych celebrates not only the complex heritage of the wine-making industry in the Cape, but evokes an appreciation for wine which stems from the ancient quest for immortality and continues into the present day.

Having completed its travels, the collection, dubbed the “Epic of Everlasting” returns to Laborie, situated in the picturesque town of Paarl.  The collection will be available for public viewing at Laborie Wine Farm, nestled in the heart of this fertile valley with the beautiful Paarl Rock as its backdrop.

The final leg of the exhibition will run from 15 December 2011 until 13 January 2012 and is open to the public for viewing from 08h00 until 17h00 daily. The clue to the treasure hunt in Paarl will be announced on the website www.epicofeverlasting.co.za on 5 December 2011.
