Mange Tout Restaurant at the Mont Rochelle Hotel & Mountain Vineyards in Franschhoek has received a top score in the annual Diners Club Winelist Awards (2011), as one of only 42 Diamond Award winners in the Western Cape to score more than 90%.
A first time Diamond Award winner, it is also the only restaurant in the Franschhoek Valley to receive the sought after accolade this year – a welcome acknowledgement of the focus Mont Rochelle is placing on its wine offering since it first scooped a Gold rating in the Diners Club Winelist awards in 2009.
At Mange Tout gourmet fine dining is presented in a breathtaking setting, complemented by an expert wine pairing service and a superb wine list, compiled by its accomplished Sommelier Mouton du Toit.
Mont Rochelle owner Erwin Schnitzler says: ‘It is a remarkable achievement to be singled out by an international organisation of the calibre of Diners Club, as a premier destination for wine and food enthusiasts. I believe it is our commitment to providing an extensive and exclusive wine selection, as well as employing highly trained and passionate staff who are enthusiastic about wine that sets us apart. The Mange Tout wine list offers a selection of 152 unfortified wines, including international vintages and several top wines produced in the Franschhoek Valley, as well as our own wine produced right here on the Mont Rochelle farm.’
The Diners Club Winelist Awards is an annual platform that encourages food and wine-serving establishments to continually improve the standards of the wine selection offered to their patrons, and recognizes those who go the extra mile to create wine lists that enhance the entire culinary experience. The Diners Club judges select restaurateurs who create wine lists that complement the food on their menus, offer a variety of styles of wines that represent big and small wineries, and those that go the extra mile. Other scoring criteria includes showing value for money from entry level to top wines to suit all pockets, guidance on suitable wine and food combinations, as well as the overall impression, layout and legibility of the wine list is also taken into consideration.
Mont Rochelle is also known for producing its own outstanding wines, which are renowned as exceptional food wines – crafted stylistically and structurally to match the world-class cuisine created at both the hotel and winery restaurants. While Mange Tout offers a comprehensive wine list, the more informal Country Kitchen offers Mont Rochelle and MIKO wines exclusively. On the farm, the cellar door experience encompasses wine tastings and cellar tours as an integral part of Mont Rochelle wines.
