MONT ROCHELLE DOES IT AGAIN!

The Mont Rochelle team rolled into first place in last weekend’s Franschhoek Bastille Festival Barrel Rolling competition – for the second year running. Their remarkable two-man team pipped challengers to the post during this annual event, held in front of the main festival marquee. The event is firmly entrenched as a ‘hot favourite’ on the calendar of this popular festival which commemorates the valley’s centuries-old French Huguenot heritage with a celebration of good food, fine wine, music and merry-making.
Mont Rochelle’s Barrel Rolling champions Danie Cupido (senior cellar assistant), and Saul Willemse, a long standing member of the Mont Rochelle team, have clearly not lost their touch after they also won the competition last year, and delivered a superb repeat performance, narrowly beating the team from Haut Cabriere Cellar Restaurant to win the coveted winner’s title. This year the competition was stiff with 14 well-rehearsed teams from nine wineries and wine farms in and around the valley contending for the winning spot.
Each year the Mont Rochelle Hotel & Mountain Vineyards enters into the spirit of ‘all things French’ over the Franschhoek Bastille Festival weekend, offering tastings of their Mont Rochelle wines, and servings of select dishes from their two distinctive restaurants, Mange Tout and the Country Kitchen, at their impressive food and wine stand in the main marquee. This year their stand proved one of the most popular, with guests clustering for a taste of bite-sized servings of delicacies such as Duck Confit Sausages, Olive Ciabatta, lightly smoked Franschhoek Trout and Pea Risotto, matched with tastings of selected wines from its popular winery.
