In a delicious melding of contrasts, Neethlingshof Estate in Stellenbosch is offering visitors a novel pairing called Slow Wine and Flash Food that combines a range of its slow-made, hand-crafted wines with a new and original interpretation of fast foods.

Six wines selected from the reserve and estate tiers are paired with six gourmet food-on-the-go options from spring rolls, noodles and wraps to steak rolls and waffles.

“We’ve added provocative, exciting and unusual touches to classic fast food favourites and matched them with wines in an accessible but really interesting way,” says Deidre Samson of Cape Legends, whose portfolio includes the wines of the famous 17th century Stellenbosch estate.

“Some of the pairings are more adventurous than others but they all work very successfully.  The whole idea is to give visitors a fun fusion of flavours and take away some of the intimidation and snobbism so often associated with wine.  We are blending centuries of history with a very current approach to food to stir things up a bit!”

Amongst the pairings are Neethlingshof’s connoisseur Short Story Collection Owl Post Pinotage and a mini Prego steak roll topped with chocolate shavings and camembert; its popular Malbec served with a spring roll filled with duck, mushrooms and liquorice; the spicily off-dry Gewürztraminer matched with honey and ginger noodles and the widely awarded Short Story Collection The Maria Noble Late Harvest presented with a mini-waffle and apricot preserve.

Slow Wine Flash Food is available exclusively from Neethlingshof at a cost of R85 a person.  Served daily from 12:00 in the wine tasting centre, orders must be placed 24 hours ahead by calling 021 883 8988.
