…AND SPANISH FLAMENCO SOUNDS ON THURSDAYS
The weekend starts early on Thursday evenings at Steenberg’s cellar door restaurant Bistro Sixteen82, with the launch of their new Tapas and Flamenco nights from (Thursday) 23 June 2011. Talented Chef Brad Ball is introducing his new Winter Tapas Menu, adding a dash of Spain with the sounds of live music with a Flamenco flavour provided by popular guitar duo Kubu Strings. This ‘hot’ combination provides the perfect early evening rendezvous to round off the day with a couple of hours of good food, magical music and great conversation, accompanied by a glass of Steenberg’s superb food wines.
Since opening in November 2009 Bistro Sixteen82 has earned a reputation for serving the tastiest Tapas in town. With Nouveau Flamenco duo Kubu Strings led by guitar maestro Pierre Fourie providing the vibe on selected Thursdays in June, July and August (from 18:00 to 20:00), diners may look forward to a multi-sensory experience to kick start the winter weekend’s celebrations.
Ball has reinvented the tapas menu with inspiring new temptations while retaining all the ‘old favourites’. These include popular signature dishes such as his Gambas Pil Pil, a serving of Shelled Tiger Prawns smothered in a delicious garlic and chilli oil, and melt-in-the-mouth Salmon Gravadlax, a Pine and Beetroot cured Norwegian Salmon, with wholegrain emulsion. Other popular standards are a tempting selection of antipasti that includes Copper Ham, Chorizo Sausage, and Pepperoni with olives, artichokes and roasted tomatoes; or his legendary Patatas Bravas, a dish of Sautéed potatoes in a spicy tomato and fennel sauce.
New items on the menu include appealing seafood dishes such as Braised Octopus with tomatoes and olives, while vegetarian choices such as the Spanish Tortilla, a potato and egg tortilla with a refreshing tomato salad, add an enticing taste of spice to the superb Tapas fare.
A blackboard depicts the fresh tapas menu of the day, complemented by a wine list with a selection of Steenberg wines that are on offer by the glass too, including a range of cultivars and styles to match every dish – from the legendary Steenberg Sauvignon Blancs, Semillon and Cap Classiques, to Shiraz, Merlot and Nebbiolo.
Tables may now also be booked in advance for Tapas (served seven days a week, late afternoon from 16:30 until the kitchen closes at 20:00). Seating is also offered at the Raw Food Bar, where foodies may watch chefs prepare gravalax, oysters and pink and red tartars on order, with choices such as Tataki with slivers of rare fillet drizzled with sesame oil and served with spring onions, fresh lime and coriander; or a Cheese Board for the perfect snack between meals.
Bistro Sixteen82 also serves breakfast and lunch daily. Ample secure parking is available. The Steenberg Winery, incorporating Bistro Sixteen82 was named Global Winner Wine Tourism Services in the Great Wine Capitals’ Best of Wine Tourism Awards 2011.
NOTE: Bistro Sixteen82 will close for its annual break from 16 August to 6 September. During this period Steenberg’s famed Catharina’s Restaurant will be open seven days a week
