JD Pretorius - Steenberg

On Wednesday 14 September Steenberg’s own winemaker JD Pretorius will present a tasting of Steenberg’s iconic white blend, the Magna Carta.  Following the maiden vintage of this magnificent wine in 2007, Steenberg released the second vintage earlier this year. Dubbed their ‘great declaration of quality’, this wine lives up to its reputation as Steenberg’s finest white, with both vintages having scored the coveted John Platter 5-Star rating.  Entitled ‘The Great Declaration:  Magna Carta 4 Years On’, this themed tasting promises a fascinating topic of conversation, while delighting the palate.

During the second Themed Tasting, on Wednesday 19 October, Karl Lambour, winemaker at the boutique Constantia Glen wine estate, will lead an insightful and delicious tasting journey through the latest Sauvignon Blanc vintages from the Constantia Valley, titled ‘Savouring Sauvignon from Constantia’.

Back by popular demand is the annual favourite, Night of 1000 Stars, which will be presented on Wednesday 16 November by Adam Mason, winemaker and custodian of Klein Constantia’s winemaking tradition. The event will lead guests into the festive season with a tasting of some of the finest Methode Cap Classiques produced in the Constantia Valley, along with fascinating insight into the making of ‘bubbly’. With Steenberg’s popular 1682 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir MCCs adding to the sparkle, this promises to be a taste sensation to remember!

Steenberg Vineyards has long been recognised as one of the top White Wine Cellars in South Africa, with not only Sauvignon Blanc, but also Semillon emerging as flagship wines. Set amidst the vineyards of a working wine farm at the foothills of the Steenberg Mountain (Stone Mountain) in Constantia, Steenberg was named Global Winner Wine Tourism Services in the Great Wine Capitals’ Best of Wine Tourism Awards 2011. Recent accolades include earning five stars in the Platters Guide 2011 for both the Steenberg Magus 2009 and Steenberg Magna Carta 2009. The Steenberg Semillon 2010 was voted onto the Top 100 SA Wines ratings guide this year (2011), also achieving a Gold Medal at the prestigious International Decanter World Wine Awards.

The Steenberg Tasting Room is open from Monday to Friday, from 09h00 to18h00, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10h00 to 18h00.  Tuesday is Pensioners Day offering pensioners a 15% discount on all Steenberg wine purchases.
