On Tuesday 23 March 2010 at 18h00, Steenberg Vineyards will for the first time, take its annual Flagship Wine Tasting directly into the homes of everyman via popular social media platform Twitter.
With the idea of sharing a unique food and wine experience with a wider audience, every home entertainer, wine connoisseur and gourmand who loves food and wine, is invited to simulate this gastronomic experience in their own homes in ‘real time’, by purchasing a ‘Steenberg Flagship Celebration Pack’ from the winery in advance, and following live tweets on the night of the event.
The pack contains all the necessary components to replicate this sumptuous affair in the comfort of one’s own home, guided by live twitter feeds from Steenberg Vineyards wine maker JD Pretorius, and Executive Chef Brad Ball, who will host the food and wine pairing event from Steenberg’s new cellar door restaurant, Bistro Sixteen82. They will share valuable insights with tweeters into the making of each wine, along with tastings of each of the four flagship wines, paired with four dishes selected from the popular Tapas menu of Bistro Sixteen82.
Available now from Steenberg’s Cellar door at R560, each ‘Flagship Celebration Pack’ includes a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2009, Semillon 2009, Nebbiolo 2007 and Catharina 2006, together with recipes for the four dishes that are easy to prepare at home. ‘Twitizens’ are encouraged to use this informal, interactive platform to exchange ideas with Steenberg, and to involve guests around their table with insights into the Steenberg Flagship wines.
Says an enthused General Manager, John Loubser: Steenberg Vineyards prides itself on remaining at the forefront of global trends in terms of innovative new winemaking methods. We also strive to remain at the vanguard of modern technology, and, among the exciting new social media platforms, Twitter has proven to be one of the most accessible and interactive, with an immediacy that is both personal and practical. South Africans recently tweeted their way to 10th place on the world Twitter users list, which means that half a million of us are tweeting every month, and, as ‘twitizens’ ourselves, I believe we can reach a far wider audience, and so introduce them to our wines. Also, we are hoping that this ‘wine adventure’, which affords us the chance to take the Steenberg brand into the homes of people, reaching them on a very personal level, may dispel the perception of the wine industry being accessible to only a select few.’
