At the first signs of winter chill, instead of grabbing a scarf and coat to face the cold, simply curl up next to the fire place and indulge in a glass of the newly released vintage of the Durbanville Hills Bastion.

Cabernet Shiraz

Durbanville Hills Bastion

The 2007 Durbanville Hills Bastion is a silky blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, with grapes sourced from a combination of vineyards located on the high and low valley slopes.

Wilhelm Coetzee, Durbanville Hills’ red winemaker, says this voluptuous, velvety and fruity blend is really worth looking out for.

“Cool climate Cabernet Sauvignon tends to be very elegant whilst Shiraz shows lots of spice and peppery flavor. The intention with the Bastion blend is to supplement the smoothness of the Cabernet Sauvignon whilst toning down the spiciness of the Shiraz by creating best of two worlds with a combination of fruit and spice.”

Ruby red in colour it bursts with elegant ripe berries and pomegranate flavours laced with spicy undertones, a result of spending 12 months in French oak barrels. The wine is exceptionally smooth on the palate and the Shiraz brings the flavours of the Cabernet Sauvignon to the fore resulting in a lingering fruity aftertaste. The Bastion, originally created to complement food, is the perfect match for robust venison or red meat dishes and is the ideal companion to an elegant dinner party.

The 2007 Durbanville Hills Bastion is expected to retail for around R57 per 750ml.
