Famous for its award-winning wines and its spectacular views, Durbanville Hills Winery stands proud in the Durbanville wine area a mere 20 minutes from Cape Town’s CBD. Located on the slopes of the Tygerberg from where it overlooks Table Bay and Robben Island with Table Mountain providing a majestic backdrop, Durbanville Hills derives great benefit from its close proximity to both the Indian and Atlantic oceans and their gift of swirling mists that drift inland on gentle sea breezes.
The Durbanville Hills area is officially considered one of the Cape’s two coolest wine regions, thanks to the sea breezes that drift inland from False Bay and Table Bay and to the late afternoon mists that bathe the slopes – conditions ideal for the slow ripening of the grapes that allow them to develop their full-flavoured and intense character. The result is wines with their inimitable hallmark of flavour intensity and elegance.
The Durbanville Hills range boasts finely crafted, yet easy-drinking wines suitable for any occasion. The Hills range – Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Pinotage, Bastion (Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz) and Merlot are the most approachable and widely enjoyed, while the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Merlot of the Rhinofields reserve range are yielded from selected vineyards marked for their consistently outstanding quality. And for the more discerning of palates, select from the single-vineyard range of limited release wines, made in only exceptional years, namely, Biesjes Craal Sauvignon Blanc, Luipaardsberg Merlot and Caapmans Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot.
