Video Description: Welgemeend (well intended) was the first cellar to produce a South African Bordeaux blend in 1979 and we continue to produce quality old style red wines. Our wines age remarkably well and our vintages are released a little later than industry standard at 4-5 years. At Welgemeend we make classic wines with an emphasis on elegance and balance between fruit and alcohol. The wines are aged in oak, both new and old, to allow for the expression of the cultivar and wine itself. We focus on low yielding vines and small quantity production of superior wines. The approach to winemaking is very hands-on and includes the use of an old basket press and in both the vineyard and cellar a practice of minimal intervention is followed.
Welgemeend is committed to quality and renowned for classic, austere wines. The farm produces 4 red blends; 3 Bordeaux styled and one Cape RhĂ´ne blend.
