Herold Wines is the only winery growing, making and bottling wine in the Garden Route.
The family owned farm, accessed via the historic and scenic Montagu Pass near George, offers homely hospitality, cellar tours, wine tastings, sales, teas & toasted sandwiches around the fireplace in a tasting room set amidst the tanks and barrels or at tables under the vines of Herold Wines’ cellar.
Farm roads and fynbos footpaths lead to vineyards and mountain streams. Rugs in shady spots with vineyard views invite picnickers.
The 6ha vineyard planted 1997 has been producing Herold Wines of note since 2003 – Pinot Noir, Sauvignon blanc, blended Shiraz/Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon, daringly different Sauvignon blanc/ wooded Chardonnay & Pinot noir blend and unusual wooded Pinot noir desert wine.
Accommodation in a two bedroomed farm cottage makes the ideal base from which to explore the Garden Route and Klein Karoo by car, on foot or cycle.
