Val du Charron Wine & Olive Estate and Guesthouse is located on a working farm in the heart of the Bovlei valley, ten minutes from the town of Wellington and under an hour’s drive from Cape Town.

Val du Charron (Valley of the Wagonmakers) is the original name of Wellington.  It was so named towards the end of the 17th century when the area was settled by the French Huguenots, who brought with them the art of wine- and wagonmaking. De Groenenbergh farm (now Val du Charron) was proclaimed in 1699 and granted to Mr. Pieter Erasmus of the Netherlands who farmed on this property with his four sons. Val Du Charron is a modern venue with an old wine making tradition and fascinating history.

The farm is 42 hectares in size and consists of 21 hectares of vineyards, 4½ hectares of olives and a 300t cellar. Our cellar produces hand crafted premium red and white wines for export. Val du Charron combines the rich traditions and natural beauty of the area with modern day comforts and technology to produce not only superb wines but an experience for our guests to remember.

The Guesthouse comprises nine luxurious suites each with stunning views of the vineyards/garden and the Hawekwa Mountains. Our four star accommodation is made up of two large family rooms, 3 double rooms and 4 twin rooms on a bed and breakfast basis with the option of dinner available. Guests can enjoy a full farmer’s breakfast served in the dining area, which integrates with the wine/olive tasting facility and allows guests to access the working cellar during the day.

For a holistic view of the wine making process or simply to enjoy the tranquillity of the farm, a number of walks and bike rides have been set up around the farm that highlight aspects such as the various cultivars of wine grown, the bee hives necessary to pollinate the vines and the dams that catch and supply the farm with all its water. Guests may also fish the dams for bass on a catch and releases basis.

Our stunning glass fronted  tasting room is the ideal party venue for weddings, birthdays, year ends and any other celebration seating up to 100. Conference facilities are available for small gathering of up to 30 people.

During Wellington’s hot summer months a swimming pool is available for the use of our guests. During the winter months large fire places with couches provide ambiance for board games or reading from our extensive library while sipping on a glass of Val du Charron’s premium wine.
