Previously the farm was owned about Phillip Lourens, and called Spesbona. Subsequently sold to Eddie Barlow the famous South African cricketer. Eddie noticed the mist cascading down the enclosing mountains and decided to change the name to Windfall – hopefully this now turns into our windfall!
The current owner Robert Alexander, who is always up to a challenge, has rebuilt dams, re-planted vineyards, drilled for new boreholes and finally built a boutique cellar.
Kobus van der Merwe has been installed as the winemaker who brings with him 30 years experience in the industry. Never satisfied with mediocrity he is always experimenting in search of the ultimate. We would like to limit the production to 600 bottles of each variety to make the wine that good and that exclusive, even if it means pressing the grapes in numerical order!
At this time visits and tastings are by appointment only, but we are soon going to have weekend tastings! Watch this space for more information.
