ALLÉE BLEUE ESTATE LAUNCHES MAIDEN MCC – THE ALLÉE BLEUE BRUT ROSÉ 2009

South Africa, Franschhoek, September 2010; ALLÉE BLEUE ESTATE has just released its very first Methode Cap Classique – the Allée Bleue Brut Rosé 2009. This is only the second wine produced by award-winning winemaker Van Zyl Du Toit’s for this well-known Franschhoek winery.

MCC - Brut Rose

Following hot on the heels of the introduction of his first wine earlier this year – the Allée Bleue Rosé 2010, the Allée Bleue Brut Rosé 2009 interestingly consists of Chenin Blanc (53%) and Pinotage (47%) – two truly South African cultivars. This MCC was however made in the tradition of all Methode Cap Classiques and was blended by only using the first pressing (cuveé).

Furthermore it has spent 10 months on the lees to develop the delicate flavours that both Chenin Blanc and Pinotage wines are known for. De-gorging took place in July of this year and, according to Du Toit, the wine will develop further richness on the cork. “It is ready to be enjoyed immediately or in 2 to 3 years’ time. Allée Bleue Brut Rosé 2009 was tank fermented and then bottle fermented and aged for 10 months,” adds Du Toit.

It has a soft salmon pink and onion skin colour. Delicate flavours of strawberries, rose petals and candy floss invite you on the nose. This is supported by beautiful brioche and yeasty notes derived from the ageing on the lees. The palate is clean and refreshing with a crisp but balanced acidity.

“This is a great sparkling wine for those special friends and moments in life,” continues Du Toit. “It is a wine that will truly create memories in a bottle. Apply within!”

With an alcohol of 12,5% vol and a total acidity of 6,1 gm/l, the 2009 Allée Bleue Brut Rosé will pair well with bruschettas topped with fresh salmon and herb cream cheese, sushi platters, tempura prawns, Norwegian salmon and tuna nigiri.

Van Zyl predicts that Pinotage and Chenin Blanc – both uniquely South African cultivars of which the country should be very proud, will play a large role in the Estate’s future. ‘They are conducive to creating great wines and he will be focusing on both varietals in the future’ says Van Zyl.
