STEENBERG VINEYARDS SUMMER WINE TASTING AND PICNIC OFFERINGS

Steenberg Vineyards is recognised as one of the most spectacular settings to enjoy a wine tasting journey in the Constantia Valley. The Tasting Room is open daily between 10:00 and 18:00, where complimentary tastings of up to six wines from its Premium and Super Premium Ranges may be enjoyed. Flagship wines may be tasted at a nominal fee, and a choice of Food and Wine, or Cheese and Wine tutored tastings are available from R100 per person. Other special features include the innovative Steenberg Sensory Tasting Experience (at a fee of R150 per person), while complimentary cellar tours are available weekdays, at 11:00 or 15:00.

Steenberg wines are known as excellent food-wines, and the winery goes to great lengths to provide a range of exciting food and wine experiences to visitors. Throughout summer and the festive season, popular cellar door restaurant Bistro Sixteen82 will be offering Brad Ball’s new breakfast, lunch and tapas menu.

The newly introduced Extemporaneous Platter offers a tasty, al fresco ‘quick fix’ for two people, and is available from the Tasting Room and Bistro 1682. Two freshly baked panini’s, served with local artisan cheese and two pieces of saucisson sec (French style dried salami) may be purchased at R85, to be enjoyed on the lawn in front of the winery.

Lavish summer picnics may also be enjoyed under the shade of a tree or parasol. Served between 10:00 and 17:00, guests are welcome to bring along their own picnic blanket, or pick one up from the winery. This laid-back outing for families and friends furthermore includes the option of a game of Boules played in true French style.

Delicious picnic baskets-for-two filled with a medley of mouth-watering goodies are available at R350 by pre-booking, and include two glasses and a choice of a bottle of 1682 Chardonnay MCC 2011, Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2011, or Klein Steenberg Cabernet Sauvignon 2010. These offer a great way to entertain bigger groups and are ideal for occasions ranging from birthday celebrations to office parties.  A special Kiddies picnic packed with yummy treats for the young ones’ is available on request at R60 per basket, and includes a toy.

Food Fanatics, one of Cape Town’s leading catering companies is behind the scrumptious fare that fills each picnic basket. Delicacies such as Italian panini’s can be enjoyed with a generous spread of oven roasted butternut and red onion spread, or tempting Cape cheeses from Dalewood Fromage. With Chocolate Brownies for the sweet tooth plus a bottle of Steenberg wine to set the mood, the Standard Picnic-For-Two is a nothing short of a feast.

The Special Event Picnic offers a basket of delectable delights. Brimming with morsels such as a Salmon platter served with blinis, crème fraiche, caper berries, lemon and Travia, and a bottle of Steenberg’s 1682 Chardonnay MCC, this too is great value at R500 per picnic for two, and perfect for celebrating engagements, anniversaries or just a romantic al fresco meal.
